Interim Assessment

Interim Assessment is a feature of the CAP1/CAP2 and FAE examinations.

The areas of interim assessment in CAP1 are in Double Entry Book-Keeping and Management Accounting.  In CAP2 the areas assessed are: Financial Reporting, Strategic Finance & Management Accounting and Audit & Assurance.  In FAE, the areas are FAE CORE  (Financial Reporting) and FAE Electives.

CAP1: Double Entry Bookkeeping (DEBK)

Double Entry Book-Keeping is a core part of basic Financial Accounting knowledge, to highlight the importance given to this core skill, a dedicated Double Entry Book-Keeping Assessment is now mandatory for all students taking the Financial Accounting Paper.  A sample assessment is available here.

Students must achieve competency of 60% or more in order to be eligible to sit any of their CAP1 examinations.

CAP1: Management Accounting

The Management Accounting interim assessment will contribute 15% towards the CAP1 Management Accounting exam.  The assessment will last for 75 minutes and it will focus on the area of Cost Accounting (Syllabus Reference CAP1 Management Accounting: 1.3, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4.  See Competency Statement 2016/2017 for further details).  A sample paper is currently available on the student site.

CAP2: Strategic Finance & Management Accounting (SFMA)

This exam is a 90 minute open book exam and can contribute up to 15% of the final CAP2 SFMA examination mark.  A case study will be provided to all students approximately four weeks before the exam date.  Sample and Past Papers are on the student site.

CAP2: AUDIT & ASSURANCE

This assessment is a 90 minute open book exam in practical Auditing. This assessment can contribute up to 15% of the final CAP2 Audit examination mark.  A Short-list of Financial Statements will be provided to all students approximately four weeks before the exam date.

CAP2: FINANCIAL REPORTING

This assessment is a 90 minute exam on basic accounting for companies, using standards covered at CAP1 only.  Students will be required to answer three questions.  All questions will be compulsory.  This assessment can contribute up to 10% of the final CAP2 Financial Reporting examination mark.

FAE CORE

At FAE, one of the core competencies is Financial Accounting and Reporting.  To emphasise this key area, there will be a piece of interim assessment: Advanced Application of Financial Reporting Principles (AAFRP).


The aim of this assessment is to assess students' technical ability, judgement and decision making abilities through double entry accounting, presentation of financial information and financial reporting disclosure.


The assessment will be open book and the duration is 130 minutes.  Candidates will be presented with a question/answer booklet, containing a number of questions for completion. Additional information on the assessment can be found in the supporting textbook: "FAE Core - Advanced Application of Financial Reporting Principles (AAFRP) Toolkit".

The assessment will contribute to students' final result for FAE Core.  The weighting of this assessment will be 1 Financial Reporting indicator (2016/2017).

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR RE-SIT STUDENTS ONLY: The closing date for the FAE JANUARY 2017 exam enrolment (FOR REPEAT STUDENTS ONLY) is 18th November 2016.  The application form will be available online from 1st November 2016. 

Exam enrolment form to resit in August 2017 will be available online Mid January 2017

 

FAE ELECTIVES

The interim assessment for FAE Electives will take place on 22nd April 2017.

This assessment seeks to introduce students to the FAE examination earlier and to encourage improved engagement in the Elective classes in particular.

The assessment will be open book and the duration is 90 minutes.  Students will be asked to deal with 3 issues based on course content to-date.

The assessment will contribute to students' final result for FAE Elective.  The weighting of this assessment will be 1 indicator per FAE Elective (2016/2017).
