What to expect on FAE Results Day 2016

Online results

Chartered Accountants Ireland will not be publishing a list of students obtaining a pass or credit in exams for the 2016 FAE session. Instead, candidates can access their results for this sitting via their student portal from 8.00am on Friday 28th October 2016. Candidates will need to log in using their username and password to view their results.  Candidates may be required to select the FAE 2016 session from the drop down menu on the Exam Results page.

Likewise firm users will be able to access results for relevant trainees via the student portal. If a firm user is having difficulty accessing the student portal please email at the earliest opportunity.


The online result will include the following details (as applicable):



  • Core Result

  • Core Decile Ranking

  • Core Sufficiency Group

FAE Elective

  • Elective Result

  • Elective Decile Ranking

  • Elective Sufficiency Ranking

An excel file, which includes a summary of students' performance at FAE CORE in each competency area, is available to download from the results page also. Please note, red, yellow and green will be indicated using the first letter of the respective word, for example Financial Accounting and Reporting - Y indicates a Yellow in Financial Accounting and Reporting.


Note: Overall FAE Core and Elective results includes the relevant AAFRP or Elective interim assessment result for each candidate.

Result letter by post

A result letter for each candidate who attempted exams in the 2016 FAE exam sitting will be dispatched from Dublin on Thursday 27th October 2016.  This letter will contain:

  • Results Letter

  • Breakdown of results for FAE CORE

  • Explanatory Information

The published result is a combination of competencies obtained in interim assessment, where relevant, and the end of year exam.  

Candidates who have been unsuccessful in one or more of the papers which they attempted will receive the following enclosed with their results letter: 

Information & Appeals Scheme

Applications under the Information and/or Appeals Schemes for FAE 2016 must be made using an online order form. This form will be available in the Chartered Accountants Ireland online shop from 10.00am on 28th October until close of business on 8th November. Next Sitting of FAE - January 2017

The next sitting of the FAE examinations will take place on 5th, 6th and 7th January 2017.

Any repeat candidate wishing to sit the FAE examinations in  January 2017 (resit only) must complete and return an Exam entry form to the Admissions Unit by close of business no later than 18th November 2016. The application form will be available from the Chartered Accountants Ireland website from 1st November 2016.

  • Closing Date for FAE Information & Appeals Scheme Applications: 8th November 2016

  • Closing date for FAE exam enrolment (January sitting): 18th November 2016

  • Exam enrolment form to resit in August 2017 will be available online: mid January 2017.
